With #LoveFromSudan: Let’s Send the Love

South Sudan flag

W ith the official birth of the new nation that was once a part of Sudan, many of us feel heartbroken. Not because of the rich resources that are now gone (and there is plenty of that). We are heartbroken because a part of us, a culture, a people, many peoples, have gone their own way.

But the truth is, I have nothing but love for the people of South Sudan. I wish them the best in their new nation. I wish for them to prosper and cherish the freedom they have fought and struggled for.

This is an open call to any Sudanese who would like to send a message of love to our brothers and sisters of South Sudan. A video and/or audio message of no more than 10 seconds from as many as possible to put together to show our support for the people of South Sudan.

All you have to do is send the following to LoveFromSudan@gmail.com:

  • Your name
  • Age
  • Hometown
  • twitter username if you have one
  • 10 seconds video (or audio) file

If you don’t want any of these details to be shown on the video (with the exception of hometown), say so in your email. I promise to honor all these requests.

So, go ahead, make a video! You can write a simple note and show it on the screen, you can say it, you can act it, you can do whatever you want. Be creative. Be loving.

Submissions will be open until 17:00 GMT on the 6th of July, 2011.After that, I will be going through all the submissions, and have them edited and put together in a full video message that will be posted on YouTube and Vimeo.

We want to release this video on the eve of the 9th of July.

South Sudan, we love you. We will miss you. But please, always visit.

I liked the idea and I hope to contribute even with a video text, but do not you think that the day 6th of July is very close. !!

It does feel like a tight deadline, but remember.. all you have to do is use a simple camera.. even if it’s from your phone and record a 10 second clip. It’s not like you need serious production to do this :) The hard work comes in creating a collage of all the videos, subtitles, etc. Doing this will not take you more than 5 minutes, including sending the email!Let us defy the stereotype of the lazy Sudanese and do something.. even with a tight deadline!
